The Five Elements Of Feng Shui - A Closer Look

Most of the people know that Feng Shu is an ancient Chinese science that studies the impact of the placement of things on the positive and negative energy of a human being.

It is also well known that Feng Shui is based on five special elements which are believed to be critical to the human existence - wood, fire, earth, metal and water. 

What Do These Elements Really Indicate In Your Life?

Each of these five elements indicates some type of impact on a person's life. Knowing the impact and how to enhance or decrease it in your home, can make great difference in the quality of your life. This is a great example of the popular adage, 'Knowledge means power'.

1. Wood (or Mu in Chinese) - wood is a sociable element; it symbolizes birth, creativity, innovation and the like. The color that represents this element is green and the area of influence is in the East corner of your home/ room. When you need a boost in creativity and innovation put wood or its color in the East side of that room or home. 

2. Fire (or Huo in Chinese) - fire represents the puberty years of a person. This element symbolizes raw energy, constant activity and high enthusiasm. Fire should be treated a lot of care since it has the capacity to destroy things that are found in its vicinity. If you need a lot of energy for any heavy-duty activities, this is the area you should revitalize, i.e. the South. The color that corresponds to fire is red.

3. Earth (or Tu in Chinese) - earth represents the youth of a person. It symbolizes honesty, integrity, patience and stability in one's character. Fire is the element that governs inheritances and all real estate property matters. The direction that it governs is the North-East and the color is yellow. 

4. Metal (or Jin in Chinese) - metal represents the adult years of the human being. The direction governed by this element is the West, while it has two colors that represent it - gold and white. This element influences the success you have in business; however it can also represent total destruction as with a knife.

5. Water (or Shui in Chinese) - the fifth element of the Feng Shui chart is one of the most important among all the existing elements. The direction it governs is the North and its color is black. Water represents the old age of a human being.

It also governs the traveling, communication, wisdom, journalism (media) and wealth areas in a person's life. Water is so important because it is the main ingredient for living - both for human and other organisms. It has both nurturing and destructive abilities and hence it needs to be handled with great care.
